Why is this a Blog?

So, I was thinking about that book I always semi-joked about writing called "Everybody Hates Mike Jones". Well, I then realized that nobody would buy it if I ever wrote it, so I decided to turn it into a blog so I wouldn't have to put in the effort of making a book to have nobody read it anyway. Enjoy!

The Roger Ebert Thing

A while ago, renowned film critic Roger Ebert said that videogames could never be art.

Personally, this statement is so short sighted not because Roger is bashing video games, but because he, a critic of one art form, is saying another type of entertainment, of which he has little experience, will never be able to convey ideas and messages like an accepted form of art. If I had to pick one thing that drives me crazy about people, it would be this.

It's the people who always say "the old ways are best" and have no desire to see what new, exciting things the future can hold. Personally, being shortsighted and immovable in our perceptions of the world brings nothing better than the status quo. I'm not saying people should be a leaf caught in the breeze, morally speaking, I'm saying many of us need to be more open of the inevitable future. Thomas Jefferson really nails this idea when he says "In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

I hope this is something society can learn to truly embrace and never, ever forget.
